This is my first DIY blog! Welcome to the insanity! This DIY is how to dye and paint shoes. This was my first time dying and painting shoes and I think it came out pretty well, even if it did include a happy accident.
I decided to tackle this project after over a month of searching for bright green shoes in my size that actually fit! Now, shoe shopping for me is exceedingly frustrating for because of my large shoe size, 11! It really pisses me off that so few shoe companies manufacture size 11 shoes. I don't feel like it is too much to ask! Thousands of great styles, tons of sales, and I cannot partake. UHG! It's real fucking annoying! Anyway... sorry for the rant. I did find a pretty pair of size 11 lime green heels on urbanog.com and I did order them but they fit like a small 10 and were very poor quality; so of course I sent them back and continued my search. Finding nothing I proceeded to make my own.
What I used:
-One pair of white shoes. I think any color will work if you are just painting but if you are dying the shoe it needs to be white or very light in hue and fabric not leather (unless you are using leather dye) or plastic. These are the shoes I chose:
-Fabric dye. Try to purchase dye that is made for the type of fabric you are using.
-Soft fabric paint. There are tons of different kinds of fabric paint, simply choose the one you find best for the project. I choose a matte finish, soft fabric paint for these shoes.
-A bucket, bowl, or sink to dye the shoes in.
-Salt, water, and vinegar to add to the dye. Your dye will come with mixing instructions.
-Gloves
-Paint brushes or sponges. I used sponges.
-A work surface that you don't care if paint or dye gets on.
Step 1: Dye your shoes!
I personally chose to just dye the whole shoe since I planned to paint the bottom portion of the shoe black. The dye took much darker on the rope. Different textiles will dye differently. Something to keep in mind when choosing your project.
This is how they come out after dying, rinsing, and drying. I followed all instructions perfectly.
Not the color I wanted at all! I have had this issue when dying non cotton fabrics before. The color always comes out lighter than I want. This is probably because the dye I used was not the correct dye for the material the shoe is made of. However, nowhere on the shoe does it tell me what it is made of soo I did my best.
Step 2: Paint the shoe the actual color you want!
Guess I should have started with this step! I mixed two colors together to achieve the green I wanted and they came out like this!
The bottom half is still dark green and I did not like the two toned green look at all. The top part, however, looked so much better after it was painted. I used a small round sponge applicator and just brushed a thin layer of paint all over the lace. I did not want to apply the paint too thick because I did not want to lose any detail in the lace. I did two coats. I chose to do the green first because the black on the bottom would cover any mistakes.
Step 3: Paint the bottom portion of the shoe black.
I let the shoe dry overnight and then began with the bottom rope part of the shoe. I did not tape it off, just free handed it. You can certainly tape off the parts you do not want black. They came out like this:
Much better! I feel like they look pretty good for my first attempt. I like how the aqua color can still be seen on the fabric behind the lace at the heel. That was my happy accident!
Total cost: Around $25
Total time: Actual work dying included about 2 hours. However, I found it necessary to allow one color of paint to dry before starting on the other so you will need to wait at least 4 hours for that.
This was an easy project and would have taken even less time if i had not messed up on the dye! OOPS! I hope you guys liked this and got some ideas from it! Next I think I will use some stencils to paint some other things! Please let me know how you like this blog and comment below telling me what other projects interest you!

Beauty Blog! Lip Obsessed!
Hello Everyone! Welcome to my first beauty blog post! As some of you know I do also have a beauty youtube channel but I have decided that I love blogging way more than making videos, so while my channel is still up and I will be still be making a posting videos; most of my beauty stuff is going into this blog!
Bottom up: Milani, Makeup Forever, Bare Minerals
Bottom up: Urban Decay, Nars Pure matte, Nars Velvet Matte
For years I was the girl who would experiment with all sorts of different eye shadows, liners, mascaras, face powders, concealers, etc. but never lipsticks! I pretty much refused to wear anything on my lips over than chapstick! However, due to my job forcing me into the lipstick great unknown I have a new obsession! I was soooo missing out! So over the past year I have experimented with a great many different lipsticks, glosses, pencils, etc! I have compiled a list of everything in my collection made swatches, took pictures, and assessed how I feel about each brand. Get ready for an epic lip everything review! I left out all of my E.L.F and NYX products because I have new things from both lines on order that have not yet arrived so I will do a part two when I get those shipments.
Many of the things on this list are samples that I received either from my work or with another purchase but many of them I bought with my own money. I am not affiliated with or paid by any of the companies discussed. I did my best to include up to date pricing for each product as well as where it can be purchased.
Wet N Wild Silk Finish Lipstick $0.93 Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Ulta, WinCO
In order from right to left:
547B-Breeze, 545A Blushing Bali, 553B Taj Mauve-hal, 525D-Retro Pink, 521A Fuchsia w/ Blue Pearl
Pros: Very affordable, pigmented, moisturizing, smooth finish, comes in a wide range of colors, and the color of the stick is pretty much the color it is on the skin
Cons: Wears off easily
WNW Mega Last Lipcolor $2.39
Left - Right: 967 Doll House Pink, 966 Don't Blink Pink, 907 Mauve Outta Here, 919 Vamp It Up. Bottom to top on the swatch pic sorry ya'll!
Pros: Affordable, lots of colors, very pigmented, long lasting
Cons: Stains, slightly drying
WNW Wild Shine Lip Lacquer $1.49
927 Risque This is pretty much the natural color of my lips just 2 shades darker.
Pros: Affordable, moisturizing, shiny, does not stain
Cons: Wears off easily.
NYC Smooch Proof 16 hour Lip Stain $4.49 Walmart, Target, Winco
490 Persistent Pink
491 Forever Fuchsia
Kiss Gloss
Clear as Candy 2.29
Pros: Not as drying as most stains, true to color, affordable, gloss is very shiny
Cons: Stain does not last maybe 2 hours, gloss is very sticky
CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipcolor $6.99
330 Divine
Color Blast Flipstick $7.59
815 Flashy
These are supposed to work together to create different effects based on how you layer the colors. I meant to do swatches of this but it would not have mattered. As far as I can tell it does nothing. They are both nice colors on their own and when layered light over dark a slight effect is created but nothing major. The dark color in this duo is the same as the color Embrace in the lip perfection line. It is a really cool iridescent purple!
First swatch here is of Divine.
Lip Perfection Pros: Huge range of colors, pigmented, moisturizing, smooth finish, stays on well, nice packaging. Really love this lipstick.
Cons: On the spendy side of drugstore brands, stains slightly
Flipstick Pros: Good color choices, two lipsticks for the price of one, smooth finsh
Cons: Spendy, stupid name, does not work as advertised.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick $4.99 Walmart, Target (has the best price on these), Ulta, CVS, Walgreens
463 Sassy Mauve Creme finish
027 Violet Frenzy Pearl finish
633 VaVa Violet Creme finish
Pros: good selection of colors, super moisturizing, decent staying power, smells really good, labels are very explanatory tells name, color, and finish of lipstick.
Cons: Non that I can find! These are my favorite lipsticks!
Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter $6.99
060 Gumdrop
I love these! It took me forever to purchase one of these because it is rather expensive for a drug store lip product and it is not a full on lip color. Lip butters are basically fancy tinted lip balms with a little extra pigment in them. However, I am so happy that I finally bought one because I love it so much! I am waiting for a good revlon sale to buy a couple other colors!
Pros: Smells amazing, miosturizing, more pigmented that expected, lovely colors, shiny, very pretty on the lips
Cons: spendy especially for the amount you get, I feel like I use a lot of product in every application because it is sheer and slick, also wears off easily
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss SPF 15 $5.95
200 Lilac Pastel
Revlon Color Burst lipgloss $5.95
040 Crystal Water
I could not get good pics of these but I really like them both. The lilac color is very pretty on the lips and the crystal water is a clear gloss with pink and blue shimmer and neither of the glosses are sticky.
Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm $5-8
Instinct
Crave
Beloved
I think I bought so many at one time because I had a coupon but I do not really like these. For some reason they get really dark on my lips and dry them out really bad. Not a fan.
Pros: really stains your lips for hours, the balm it comes with is nice, pigmented
Cons: gets really dark, very drying, swatches to not match actual color, applies streaky, wears unevenly. I really wanted like this product. I tried to return them to target but they would not take them because they were opened. I am still trying to find a way to use these but so far they are my least fave product.
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain $5-7
010 Darling
015 Cherish
In my opinion revlon could have just skipped the marker stains and just made these! I love them! They are very much like the chubby sticks from Clinique apparently, I have not tried those and probably won't because they are $22 a piece where as the revlon one are about $6. I bought the lilac one first, loved it, bought the bright pink a few days ago because I had a coupon. There are two other colors I would also like to try, a light pink and a nude. Darling is at the top of the pic, cherish on the bottom.
Pros: Beautiful colors, light stain, wears evenly, lasts all day, moisturizing, you get a lot of product.
Cons: needs more colors.
Maybelline Super Stay 10 hour Stain Gloss $6.95 Drug stores, Walmart, Target, Ulta
160 Luxerious Lilac
Color Sensational Lipstain $5.95
Plum Flushed
Pros: Nice colors, not too drying, lasts forever!
Cons: does not come off, a little dark at first
Maybelline Limited Edition Porcelain Lipsticks $6.49 and worth every penny!
850 Porcelain Pink
855 Flawless Fuschia
860 Smooth Taupe
865 Nude Nuances
I am in love with these colors! I saw them all over blogs and youtube and could not find them anywhere! They finally made their way out here to Vegas and I found them at Walgreens buy one get one 50% off! There are two more shades in the collection, Afternoon Tea and Elegant Lilac. I did not purchase those because I have other lipstick colors very similar to them but the four I did get are so unique and lovely! I am in love with these! Since they are L.E. I think I will end up purchasing back ups before they go away! Get these if you can, you will not regret it! Colors from bottom up then left to right.
Pros: Awesome colors, all creme finishes, smell pretty, beautiful sueded packaging, these look and feel just as nice as any high end lipstick. The colors are suitable for pale and tan skin tones.
Cons: That these are LE and will not be around for long.
Sephora Lip Attitude Star Lipsticks $5.00
S03
S06
S12
Pros: Affordable especially for Sephora, smell yummy, shimmer that doesn't look old, great pigmentation, smooth, moisturizing
Cons: Wears off quickly, are possibly being discontinued, cannot be purchased online
These last ones are brands I only have one or two of so I just kind of lumped all the swatches into one.
Milani Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lipgloss $6.00 Drugstores, some Walmarts
Makeup Forever Rouge Artist Intense (I got mine free with points) $19.00 Sephora or makeupforever.com
#15
Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing Full Coverage Lipgloss (I got a mini free) $9-12 Ulta, Sephora, Online
Confidence
Urban Decay Lipstick (I got mine as gratis from work) $22
Naked (This color is my "my lips but better" color)
Nars Pure Matte Lipstick $24 Sephora
Volga
Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil $24 Sephora
From bottom up
Bottom up: Milani, Makeup Forever, Bare Minerals
Bottom up: Urban Decay, Nars Pure matte, Nars Velvet Matte
From doing all these swatches the biggest difference I could tell between my high end makeup and my drugstore makeup was the application. Some of the drugstore brands did not just glide on, some of them needed smoothing out, where as all of my high end products went on easily, evenly, with great color, and stay on really well. To me for the price difference that is something I can get over. I love all my high end stuff and most of my drugstore stuff! Either way it's all an investment in how I look and some days feel about myself.
Please feel free to give me feedback on my blog and these products. Also, please let me know what you would like to see next. More reviews and swatches, tutorials, hauls, etc.
